This month, the usual crowd was on hand for book club. The venue was Anne’s house with delicious cake and chocolate mint tea on the table to get the evening off to a cozy start! The Forgotten Garden, by Kate Morton, was the book “under the microscope” this time.
The overall consensus was that it was a nice read. The book was well written but did seem to lack some common sense points … like why did Nell have such a character shift after learning about her parentage? Curiosity we could understand but the complete change in personality toward the family that loved and adored her was something most of us just couldn’t grasp. It also seemed that the ending was a bit too convenient or tidy for our taste – to quote Sondra, “Was the author about to miss her deadline?!” That being said, the book also had some very nice moments and read like a mystery. It was a definite “thumbs up”, in my opinion.
Stay tuned for the announcement of the next book club!
