Halloween has come and gone in the Netherlands, but not without a fun celebration by TICKids. Thanks to the volunteer efforts of Farrah, Aislinn and Patricia, 11 children with their parents were able to enjoy an afternoon filled with costumes, snacks, crafts, games, a story, and, of course, Halloween treats at The Harmonie in Tilburg.
The festivities started with a spider craft made from the kids’ handprints, with string to complete the spiders’ webs. To help set the Halloween mood,
we read Curious George and the Costume Party in which Curious George attends a Halloween party, just like our TICKids party. The kids also enjoyed several different games.
A monster and jack o’ lantern were “fed” in a Halloween bean bag toss game – and every time the kids threw the “food” into a mouth, they also got a treat.
Next, the kids participated in a different version of “trick or treat.” The kids picked cards from a bag that read “trick” or “treat” – if the card read “trick,” the kids performed a trick, such as hopping on one foot, and if the card read “treat,” they were given a
piece of candy. And the kids pinned noses on the pumpkin in a Halloween twist of pin the tail on the donkey.
And, of course, we all enjoyed lots of Halloween treats. Halloween cupcakes and
plenty of candy we enjoyed by all, with apple juice for the kids and warm drinks for the grown ups. Kids and adults all enjoyed the expat twist for our Halloween!
