Jobs in the Netherlands

Did you know that TIC has a dedicated JOBS page to help expats find jobs in the Netherlands, and specifically in and around the Tilburg area?

We get many requests all year round for help with job searches. More and more job searches are done through social media channels such as Twitter and Facebook as well as through the professional networking site LinkedIn. In-person networking is also an important factor in getting a foot in the door. tíc can help you build your social and professional network through its many activities that bring expats together.

Many job listings are posted on Twitter asking for candidates who speak a foreign language that isn’t Dutch. You can follow @tilintclub to get regular notices of vacancies. You can also do various searches to find job vacancies (for example, job vacancy Tilburg).  Many groups such as @nativespeakerss, @IamExpatJobs, @jobportaal and @BlueLynxJobs all post their vacancies several times a day.

Facebook is also worth investigating for jobs, specifically groups that are dedicated to posting position for jobs in the Netherlands, such as English speaking Jobs & Events in the Netherlands. Take a look today!

Suggestions for tíc Volunteer Activities!

Volunteertíc has set a goal to support a different charity every year whether by fundraising, event participation or volunteer work. This past June, tíc chose to support the charity Nacht van de Vluchteling (Night of the Refugees). A small of group of tíc members not only participated in the event by walking a 20 km route, they also raised a total €950 for the foundation

tíc is currently looking for a good cause to support for our 2019-2020 club year. If you would like to make a suggestion or have a good idea for us to look into, please let us know!

President’s Summer Send-off – July 2019

I’m sitting with my laptop outside enjoying this beautiful Dutch weather (no – I’m not kidding!) and reflecting on what an amazing club season we enjoyed.

We started with our best ever attended Welcome to Tilburg event to commemorate tíc’s 10th anniversary and finished up with another tícnic where everyone left full of good food and drink ready to start the summer!

And, in between those two fantastic events, we squeezed in borrels, sporting events, arts and crafts, walks, games and a whole lot more. One new addition to our agenda, was a charity walk to help refugees. It was a wonderful way for us to give back to those who aren’t as fortunate and, as a result, the board has decided to look for ways to raise money for a different charity every year. We haven’t made our final selection yet, so if you have ideas or causes that you feel passionate about, let us know. As your club continues to grow and flourish, so does the need to give back to those who could use a helping hand.

We are quite fortunate to enjoy the expat life and freely explore all that the world has to offer! I hope you take some pleasant memories of this past club season along with you as you embark on your summer adventures and I look forward to welcoming you all back in September!!

Wishing you sunny days,

Yolonda

ticnic a success!

by Mala Raman

30 Jun 2019. This year we had perfect weather for our annual picnic. To our regular participants, our once a year, pre-summer gathering is known as the tícnic. In a not too warm, not too cold outdoor venue, a big crowd of tíc members and guests came together to once again help bring the club season to a close.

In the middle of a lush green park on the campus of Tilburg University, everyone happily sat at the picnic tables or on the grass to enjoy a good old-fashioned cookout. Thanks to many of our male members who “manned” the grill, there were hamburgers, veggie burgers, braadworst and kip saté to be gobbled up. Members also brought many delicious types of salad or dessert to share.

No tícnic is complete without some fun group activity. This year we had a rousing game of “Finska” (an ancient Finnish game) that consists of 12 wooden pins arranged into a group. A throwing log (called the Mölkky) is thrown underarm in an attempt to knock down pins to score exactly 50 points. If points are scored that causes the score to exceed 50, the player (or team) has their score reset to 25. The winner is the first to achieve the 50 points. Judging by the theatrics, it was a nail-biter until the end!

All in all, we had a fantastic day; it was great to have so many of our members join this year’s outdoor festivities.  To all who attended: we hope to see you again in the upcoming club year. To those who couldn’t make it this year: come by next year and share in the fun!

Charity Walk for Refugees

Charity: Stichting Vluchteling (The Refugee Foundation)
tíc Goal: Raise €1000 for Stichting Vluchteling
tíc Raised: €950 raised for Stichting Vluchteling!!

by Dagmara Gielen-Bernacka

15 Jun 2019. This year, between all the fun social activities, tíc members participated in a Dutch charity event — the 10th edition of de Nacht van de Vluchteling (The Night of the Refugee). This event is organised by the Netherlands Refugee Foundation, in which thousands of participants walk in the middle of the night to raise money (and awareness) for emergency aid for refugees worldwide. The team had a goal to raise €1000 for the foundation and we managed to secure €950 in donations!!

tíc at Hap Stap, rain or shine!

by Mala Raman

12 jun 2019. Despite the showers early on in the evening, tíc members ventured out for an evening of munching and chatting at the annual Tilburg Hap Stap Festival. Sixteen local restaurants showed off their best tapas-style dishes as tempting aromas drew in the masses. The event was made up of dozens of tents dotted throughout the Interpolis’ courtyard (near the Spoorlaan). tíc secured a table under the tents of De Carpacciobar.  Attendees sampled dishes such as fish and chips, steaks, burgers, sweet potato fries and more.

Coincidentally, the Mayor of Tilburg, Theo Weterings also chose to stop by De Carpacciobar and said a happy and welcoming hello to tíc. Nostalgically, the Mayor and our tíc president, Yolonda van Riel, recreated their 2018 Welcome to Tilburg event portrait.

Like every tilburg international club borrel, the first drink was provided by the club. Club members enjoyed their beverages along with the free samples of Schrobbeler being passed out to all event attendees. tíc members hung out together well past the official borrel time and continued to have a great time in the cool summer evening.
