11 December 2020. by Masako Kato. I joined the tíc Netflix Party. Netflix Party ia an online film party where we look at the same Netflix movie simultaneously from our home and chat with each other about the film while we are watching it.
It was my first time to attend a Netflix Party and I had no idea how this was going to work. I already had a Netflix account, but I needed to download Teleplay, an app which lets you join the party.
TIC was as always very considerate and inclusive. That is to say that they gave us a very clear technical instruction what we needed to do and also organised a zoom call just before the movie started to help us with any technical hiccup. So, nobody needs to miss it due to the lack of technical skill. I needed this call to get help to activate my Telplay.
We watched the film “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.”, a James Bond type spy movie situated in the Cold War period with some humours. I did not know which movie
we were going to watch until it started and I had never heard of this film. I normally wacht the trailer before I go the the film but I really enjoyed this experience of a total surprise.
Some participants actively chatted during the film to make comments on what we just saw on the screen. It was fun to follow them, but I find it myself a bit difficult to make a comment while I am following the film. This was a spy film and if you do not pay attention, you may loose an important hint.
On the other hand, I really enjoyed our zoom call before the film. It might be a good idea to have a zoom chat after the film with some drinks to talk about the film as well. If you have never tried Netflix Party, it is worth a try. Certainly now that all the movie theaters are closed.
And a good Japanese film on Netflix. All the animation films by a famous director Miyazaki are on Netflix. The most famous one is the “Spirited Away”. I also love “My neighbour Totoro”. They are both for all ages.
