08.09.2021. “He can’t leave. You won’t want to.” It’s the back of the book blurb from Amor Towles’ bestseller A Gentleman in Moscow, our pick for the September tíc book club. We met to discuss the novel and it was great
to see each other in person again! We met consistently on Zoom through Covid-19, which helped us all stay in touch.
The book’s main character, Count Alexander Rostov, has been sentenced to house arrest at the Hotel Metropol in Moscow for being an unrepentant aristocrat; the novel details how he creates a life for himself there with the hotel’s denizens and develops rich friendships, romance and even parenthood while witnessing history being made in the Soviet Union.
Those who finished the book liked it, and Katie even thought it was, “the best book I have read with TIC”! Needless to say, those who did not finish it were planning to do so! Assuming nothing changes in the Corona regulations, we should be able to meet in person now so please come and join us!
