Tilburg International Club Expat Book Clubreview by Katie Schweitzer & Anne van Oorschot

18 Oct 2022. When the Tilburg International Club came into being back in March 2008, the Book Discussion group was created as well. Our first meeting was well attended and our first book was Kafka on the Shore, by Haruki Murakami. While members to the group have come and gone, we are still going strong and recently read our 100th book!

For our 100th book we read The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow and gathered together to discuss it. Since 100 books is no small feat, we also had a party to celebrate!

Tilburg International Club Expat Book ClubWe had quite a group, and before we sat down for a delicious Indonesian meal, we all had a chance to mingle and catch up. The decorative centerpiece was 100 books pulled from Anne’s shelves so we could really visualize the achievement and reminisce about previous books.

After dinner we got into the book discussion. Everyone seemed to really enjoyTilburg International Club Expat Book Club the book, and there were quite a lot of parallels between the characters’ journeys between worlds and our own experience as expats, especially during the pandemic. Overall it was a great evening, commemorated with some fun pics of us in 100 glasses!”

Hats off to the 3 members in attendance who have been part of the Book Discussion since our the first meeting so many books ago.

Curious what we have read? Check out our list of books and next time you are wondering what to read, consider one of our past books. Better yet, why not join our little group and be part of our literary adventures. 😊
