Finance Series: Insurances webinar review
by Essi Koskela
18 Nov 2021. “We in the Netherlands like insurances, we don’t like to be surprised.” – Tim Dircken
In the third part of the tíc financial webinar series, a small audience gathered in front of their laptops to hear about a subject that even the presenter named as his least favorite on the financial series: Insurances in the Netherlands.
Starting with the main message, the Dutch insurances don’t differ that much from other countries and pretty much anything can be insured. We covered the basics in about half an hour and then proceeded into an engaged Q&A session, where participants got the chance to get their fears professionally assessed from a financial perspective. Speaking on the behalf of participants, we were positively surprised by how interesting the webinar was.
Unfortunately, none of us escaped – Eaten by Sharks!
5 Feb 2020. by Essi Koskela. Enabled by Confundrum Escape Rooms based in Canada, 14 eager tíc members gathered behind their computer screens for a virtual escape room experience.
Prisoners Hatch a Plan
Participants were divided into two rooms, after being captured by the evil pirate Blackbeard and thrown behind bars on his ship. As the clock started ticking, we set out to explore the 3D virtual room for clues and useful items to try and escape. (more…)
Finance Series: Dutch Income Webinar review
28 Jan 2021. by Val Fraser. In times of lockdown and loads of negative news, getting a notification about Dutch Taxes would usually be the straw that broke the camel’s back! But this was not how I felt when I was advised that tíc was arranging a workshop on dutch taxes. In fact, the worst thing about taxes, would be paying too much or getting fined!
Our Presenter
Tim Dircken, fellow tíc member and financial advisor from Dircken and Partners Financial Services, kindly took us through the Dutch tax regulations and obligations, answering all our intelligent (or not) questions with patience and simplicity.
This webinar was the first of a series of finance-related series focused on Dutch income tax, subsidies and specific arrangements for expats. (more…)
Game Night was Game On!
LET THE GAMES BEGIN!
25 Jan 2021. by Nikos Basbas. Game lovers got together for a night of fun and fierce competition!
Our Game Night Experience
Last week’s game night with the Tilburg International Club was fun! I did not expect playing board games online can be so easy and enjoyable. Around nine households joined, and we played Code Names which I would describe as a combination of Skribbl.io (Pictionary game from our Holiday borrel) and Monopoly. It was some cross between buying property (like land) in Monopoly and trying to get as many cards (laid out on a board) as possible in Code Names. (more…)
What’s your favourite virtual activity?
The tíc Events Team works hard to plan activities and events that are fun, inspirational and educational for its membership. We strive to create experiences that encourage our members to form (online) social networks while getting to better know the city and country in which they live.
What are your favourite online activities? Do you know of some awesome games, quizzes or virtual tours? Do you know of a great way to give back to the local community by volunteering online or outside? We want to hear from you!
We are always looking for new and innovative ideas for our (virtual) events. (more…)
Pub quiz competition was fierce!
22 Oct 2020. I went to my first general meeting for the Tilburg International Club
the other week. It was a virtual event where they talked about the club, and then afterwards we had a pub quiz. (more…)
