by Patricia Gonzalez. Confession time. I’ve lived in Tilburg for two years now, practically in the neighborhood of Paradox, and I profess to be a lover of all things jazz. Yet I had never been there until the night of TIC’s borrel. It wasn’t because I had never heard of the place. Paradox is a popular jazz venue among Tilburg residents and the non-profit foundation has been around for almost 30 years. Still, I had never gone. (more…)

14.05.2015 If you missed TIC’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on May 14th, you missed a great time! A great time at an AGM? Yes, you read correctly!

tíc Board of Directors hard at work!

We had a nice turnout and, after a welcome coffee with sweets, we began the evening as we do every year, with a short presentation over the club and how we are performing. All board members are still in term, so no need for a vote but our treasurer, Yiyi Bai, will be leaving us at the end of the club year and we are in search of a replacement. Next, Anne shared our membership numbers which are slightly up from last year but still considerably lower than when we had the first influx of university members. (more…)

Tour of LocHal and WWII Expo review

by Mala Raman

07 Mar 2020. Right behind the Tilburg Central Station in the Spoorzone, is an old industrial locomotive hall that has been transformed into a cutting edge library, The LocHal. The repair center from the 1930s has been converted into a modernist design filled with glass, stunning wooden staircases and light-filled, open-plan spaces all housed within the steel beams of the original locomotive center.

Our group of tíc members met here to explore this innovative building. The World Architecture Festival named the LocHal “2019 World Building of the Year”.

#TBT: Borrel at De Pont

pont-1

Tomorrow we’ll be hosting another fun borrel at Havana. For #ThrowbackThursday, here’s a look back at one of our borrels from 2017!

16 Feb 2017

by Anne van Oorschot

10 things I learned at the TIC borrel on February 17th at De Pont:

One: Modern Art museum De Pont is located in a former wool spinning factory and the large light spaces and intimate “wool rooms” offer a good setting in which to view modern art.

Two: The museum is named for the businessman Jan de Pont (1915-1987) who left a large sum of money after his death for the creation of a museum of modern art. The museum receives no government subsidy and operates solely on de Pont’s legacy. (more…)

tíc Annual Holiday Dinner at Anvers

by Dagmara Gielen-Bernacka

11 Jan 2020. The inauguration of a new tíc calendar year took place in the lovely restaurant Anvers, situated in the centre of Tilburg.

And yes, we were having a blast!

The club members showed up with quite a representation; there were even some new faces. It’s always brilliant to meet the newcomers and I was happy to be able to chat with a couple of them.

We got an absolutely posh treatment, since effectively the whole 1st floor of the restaurant was exclusively ours and the staff did everything they could to make us feel at home. We got a round of a good ole prosecco that accompanied the toast and new years wishes from our charming president, Yolonda. (more…)
