Next Sunday we’ll meet up again for our annual Ugly Sweater Borrel. For #FlashbackFriday, here’s a look at our “ugly” gathering from 2018!

22.12.2018. Once again, we had a great time socializing and snacking during our traditional Christmas borrel.  This year we met at Cafe Bakker with everyone charged with wearing their best “ugly sweater.” It was interesting to see what our members’ ideas were of an “ugly” sweater.

Despite the overcrowding around the Korte Heuvel that we were expecting, it was pleasantly cozy in Cafe Bakker where members shared their happiness of starting the holiday season and discussing Christmas and New Year’s plans.

A borrel was the perfect way to bid everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

21 Dec 2018. On a cold, but clear night, our members once again met up at Cafe Bakker.  For most, it was the end of work for the year, so everyone was looking forward to socializing and snacking during our traditional Christmas borrel.  Every year we ask attendees to wear their best “ugly sweater.” It was interesting to see what our members’ ideas were of an “ugly” sweater. A dark and stormy US election night borrel

What happened? What’s it all about, Alfie? Misogynistic, feckless, dissolute, 1966-film Alfie ends up all alone, save a stray dog. How did his Donald twin end up with the presidency?

Nothing for it but to talk about the Elephant in the room, and so we did in a cosy corner of Café Bakker in Tilburg. By evening’s end the spirits of true-blue Americans had been restored by Aussie, British, Dutch, and French solidarity.

There will be many a borrel before the one we plan in November 2020 to celebrate the retaking of the White House!

MEET & GREET DRINKS AT CAFE BAKKER

cafe-bakkerArticle by Melissa  Donders

On Thursday, 19th of May, 2016 TIC members and any other internationals were invited to join with P&D Care and the ExPat Center to meet at Cafe Bakker in the Korte Heuvel for drinks and snacks. With over 30 people attending, the night was a great success! It was nice to join together for a drink, some networking and general information about what these organisations do. It’s very easy to strike up a conversation at these events as they are quite informal with everyone having a shared interest of being in a different country.
