Tomorrow we’ll be online again for another fun borrel/game night. For #ThrowbackThursday, here’s a look back at one of our borrels from 2014 at the Paradox! (Hopefully we’ll get back to hosting in-person barrels again soon!)
by Patricia Gonzalez. Confession time. I’ve lived in Tilburg for two years now, practically in the neighborhood of Paradox, and I profess to be a lover of all things jazz. Yet I had never been there until the night of TIC’s borrel. It wasn’t because I had never heard of the place. Paradox is a popular jazz venue among Tilburg residents and the non-profit foundation has been around for almost 30 years. Still, I had never gone. (more…)
5 March 2021. by Essi Koskela. Unlike the several devoted beerophiles attending the tic beer tasting event, I was hesitant at first. My preference has settled in the plain pilsje and lager after years of empirical research, and I was not sure I was ready to challenge this concept.
Unfooled by my prejudice, I set out to experience the selection of four local craft beers: a hazy landbier (Beerze Classic), IPA, a subtle triple (School Strafwerk), and a thick, rich porter (Engelbertus Zachte Heelmeester). Joining us online was our beer master, Hans from HetBierMoment. Thanks to tic, 4 beers + a beer glass were delivered straight to each participant’s door. That’s tic service at its best! (more…)
Tomorrow, we will be doing an at-home beer tasting workshop presented by Hetbiermoment. For #ThrowbackThursday, let’s take a look at our tour from 2018 to Koningshoeven monastery to visit the Trappist Brewery, famous for La Trappe beer!
22 September 2018. by Elaine Ferguson. A group of enthusiastic beer tasters assembled outside the La Trappe Monastery in Berkel Enschot. Coincidently, the majority of our group consisted of Australians although some were from Sydney.
Antonio our guide met us at the gates and we preceded to the brew room where he explained the process (see link below), but the most important part for us to remember was the 2nd fermentation!! As once the beer is bottled, it continues to ferment. So, the longer you store it, the better the taste. (more…)
18 Jan 2020. by Mala Raman. We had an awesome evening in our ugliest Christmas Sweaters!
For those members who were able to join this fun event, each participant received a wonderful surprised beforehand. tíc board members personally delivered a plate of snacks and drinks including a special vegan platter from Picnic Platters! We had a choice of white or red wine or a La Trappe Tripel; there was a little something for everyone.
This year our celebrations are going to look a lot different than previous years, but for #throwbackthursday, in honor of our traditional holiday borrel and massively ugly sweaters, let’s take a look at what was on display last year.
20 December 2019
As always, it was crazy crowded at the annual Holiday borrel at Cafe Bakker with plenty of ugly sweaters to go around. Take a look!

14.05.2015 If you missed TIC’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on May 14th, you missed a great time! A great time at an AGM? Yes, you read correctly!
tíc Board of Directors hard at work!
We had a nice turnout and, after a welcome coffee with sweets, we began the evening as we do every year, with a short presentation over the club and how we are performing. All board members are still in term, so no need for a vote but our treasurer, Yiyi Bai, will be leaving us at the end of the club year and we are in search of a replacement. Next, Anne shared our membership numbers which are slightly up from last year but still considerably lower than when we had the first influx of university members. The board is working hard by visiting companies, international schools and using social media to attract more members. We have also printed new flyers and business cards with our new logo and are busy handing those out as well. Yiyi then presented the financials and showed that we are doing well keeping within our budget and still offering many incentives to our members. Lastly, Patricia gave an overview of all of the events so far this club season complete with photo’s. You can view the presentation here for the complete details.
Pub Quiz competition was fierce!
Then came the fun part! Our originally planned speaker had to cancel due to illness so, at the last minute, we improvised and held a reception complete with drinks, snacks and a pub quiz. We divided up into three teams while Patricia asked questions over 4 rounds of play. What a drama!! We had bartering for partial points, we had contesting of the answers (even though they were right there in black and white), we had debating amongst the teams and we had to do all this without looking at our phones for help! In the end, after much laughter, eating and drinking, a winning team emerged and went home with gift certificates from Bagels & Beans, while the losing team went home with a “beautiful” magnet. But everyone went home with homemade macaroons from Patricia which – I must say – were absolutely delicious!!
One last note: If you or someone you know would be interested in filling the board position of treasurer, please let us know. This is an integral part of our board and we would love to welcome you to the team. We realize these positions are voluntary and, while participation is vital, we try to keep the commitment to a level that is “doable” in our busy lives!
tilburg international club (tíc) would like to thank our sponsors and contributors for helping us
make our annual tíc Welcome Event possible!
Our event is fully booked and we are no longer taking new registrations.
For those who have confirmed registrations, we look forward to seeing you there!

Dear tic friends,
Summer is here! Of course, we are not welcoming summer in the usual way. Our holiday planning revolves around social distancing, checking regulations and, above all else, ensuring the health of our friends and loved ones. Although our lives and routines have changed, summer still brings the feeling of fun and relaxation. Even as the club season comes to a close, your board is already working on the program for the Welcome Event scheduled for 12 September 2020!
To say it has been a strange year would be an understatement. Despite having to cancel a portion of the season, tic still managed to plan and host almost 30 events! However, next year, we will be without our entire events team. Jessica and Anne-Lise will still be a part of the club but both are now taking time out to prepare for new bundles of joy! So, once again, we are asking for your help. If you would like to volunteer to assist in the planning of events, we would love you have you! It is a great way to get involved in your club, discover some fun things about the area and meet some interesting people. I started out on the board in events planning and I had so much fun organizing and learning things about my newly adopted country. If you have some time, I highly recommend it!
For now, I wish you and yours a great summer. Wherever your travels may take you – even if it is only to
your backyard – stay healthy and have fun. I look forward to welcoming you all back in September.
Wishing you healthy and sunny days,

Dear tic friends,
What a bizarre time it is around the world! I’m writing this message to you from my newly renovated
home office (I couldn’t take standing at my kitchen counter anymore!) and trying to express to you all
how much I miss the interaction with my fellow club members.
With large events postponed throughout the Netherlands until at least September, this is essentially the end of the club year. While we are experimenting with virtual book club and, if that goes well, an online happy hour, all other events are cancelled or postponed for the remainder of the season. Your board is working on a way to have an interactive Annual General Meeting – perhaps with an online pub quiz after we update you on the status of your club. Keep an eye on our social media pages for updates on the AGM as well as tips and tricks for making the most of your time in quarantine.
Although it is no fun cancelling events or staying home, the health of you and your family will always be the number one priority. I hope you have been able to stay in touch with family and friends abroad and that you and your loved ones have remained healthy and safe. Take care and I hope to see you at a virtual event soon!
