A great night with the Brabantse Jazz Orchestra at Paradox

TIC Jazz Nightreview by Dietrich Haas

05 Oct 2022. Jazz might not be everybody’s favourite – and yes, it is definitely not mainstream – but it is heaps of fun and definitely once in your life a must-try if you have not visited a concert, yet.

The Orchestra

TIC gave everybody a chance to broaden their musical horizons by organizing a Jazz night at Tilburg’s Paradox with Het Brabantse Jazz Orchestra. This is a proper bigband with almost 20 years stage experience, who performed all the pieces from their latest recording. (more…)

11 Oct 2018. by Tanya Ahern.

It was an unseasonably warm evening when tíc members met up at ’t Taphuys bar and restaurant in Tilburg’s centrum. Thirsty guests discovered 40 beers and 32 wines on tap there for their drinking pleasure.

tíc at Hap Stap, rain or shine!

by Mala Raman

12 jun 2019. Despite the showers early on in the evening, tíc members ventured out for an evening of munching and chatting at the annual Tilburg Hap Stap Festival. Sixteen local restaurants showed off their best tapas-style dishes as tempting aromas drew in the masses. The event was made up of dozens of tents dotted throughout the Interpolis’ courtyard (near the Spoorlaan). tíc secured a table under the tents of De Carpacciobar.  Attendees sampled dishes such as fish and chips, steaks, burgers, sweet potato fries and more.

Coincidentally, the Mayor of Tilburg, Theo Weterings also chose to stop by De Carpacciobar and said a happy and welcoming hello to tíc. Nostalgically, the Mayor and our tíc president, Yolonda van Riel, recreated their 2018 Welcome to Tilburg event portrait.

Like every tilburg international club borrel, the first drink was provided by the club. Club members enjoyed their beverages along with the free samples of Schrobbeler being passed out to all event attendees. tíc members hung out together well past the official borrel time and continued to have a great time in the cool summer evening.

#TBT: Borrel at Hap Stap Festival

Tomorrow we’ll meet up again at the Hap Stap Festival. For #ThrowbackThursday, here’s a look back at the TIC experience from last year!

Review by Jessica Lipe. We met up for the opening evening for the 4-day Hap Stap Festival in Tilburg. This year was the 23rd year of Hap Stap and 16 local restaurants offered a sampling of their menu. Our group tried all kinds of delicious food, like samosa, ribs, shrimp and saffron risotto, and tuna. It was a great way to discover restaurants worth checking out in Tilburg. With new and old faces present, it was a pleasant evening spent chatting and tasting in the garden of Interpolis downtown.

Fontys Academy of Circus and Performance Art review

by Mala Raman

Graduates of Fontys Academy of Circus and Performance Art presented their group show “Wake the Dog” in which they connected their circus skills with dance and theatre. The performance was directed and produced by the students and coached by Stefan Hort (Switzerland).

Entering the theater, a group of 9 performers were already “on” and interacting with the audience members as individuals found their seats. One participant was sitting on the side of the hall singing a French song and playing the guitar. The students gave off a vaudeville vibe before the show and that continued throughout the performance beginning with a group dance.

According to my fellow TIC members (because I had no clue), it seems the acting/theater portion of the show symbolized how people have been trained to behave according to societal norms, responding to events in their daily lives in a Pavlovian manner. The point of the performance (I think) was that we must break free of our boxes and open our eyes to what is happening in the greater scheme of life, in other’s words, we must wake the dog.

Long theatrical dialogues and diatribes (complete with dog hoods) were punctuated by short bursts of circus skills. There was an annoying dog barking sound track with ‘house’ style background music that was played intermittently signalling the group to begin “dancing” again. I could have done without seeing that exact dance 20 times during the performance.

On the bright side, what there was to see of the circus acts looked impressive and difficult. The acts included the static and dance trapeze, tightwire, Chinese pole, rope and partner acrobatics.  It’s clear that these students have worked hard at their chosen craft and it was nice to see the end result of their years of study. I just wish I had been able to witness more of their actual talents.

TIC Bowling Borrel review

by Hoda Barzegaran

I want to thank all the people who were involved in putting together the Dolfijn bowling center event.  We had so much fun from the beginning till the end. It started with a great welcome from Mala’s friendly and smiley face and a lot of help on how to get prepare.

And, it continued with playing and mingling with lovely people from different countries while we were enjoying our drinks. It was like being with old friends, even though we had all just met. What a wonderful experience!

After one hour of bowling practically every one stayed longer. we all sat around a big table like a big family and got a chance to talk more and to know each other better. It was an awesome evening. Can’t wait to see everyone again in TICnic on June 16!
