#TBT: Welcome to the Heart of Brabant

In just one week, we will be celebrating tic‘s 10-year anniversary at our grand Welcome to Tilburg event!  For #ThrowbackThursday, let’s take a look at the festivities from 2016!

We had another beautiful day on 24 September 2016 for our annual Welcome Event that officially opens our club year! This year’s theme was the Puishaven Quest where we had to search the area for answers to questions about the many sights and scenes around the Puishaven in Tilburg.

To start the afternoon, everyone gathered at the eclectic HeAVENs Kitchen for coffee and apple pie as we were welcomed to the city by Tilburg’s vice mayor, Erik de Ridder. After the warm welcome, we divided up into teams and headed out for the adventure! As the teams made their way back to the final destination, Undici Keukens, (some still with chocolate on their face from the free bon bon at Huize Geers Chocolatier!) they were welcomed by a cold beverage and turned in their answer sheets. We had a lot of fun socializing at Undici while enjoying drinks and snacks provided by the biological restaurant, Eethuis Twentig while waiting for the winners to be announced. The winning team was “Team Ellis” and each team member received a gift certificate for ice cream at Porto Koffie en Ijs – an adorable little shop in the Puishaven selling specialty coffee and ice cream.

We ended the afternoon with the grand prize drawing of a 50 euro gift certificate to restaurant Bij Vermeer. It was a great afternoon meeting new people, catching up with old friends and just having fun!

#TBT: Canal ride and walking tour review

Throwback Thursday brings you a look at our boat and walking tour from this past October.

Being October, we decided to arrange a boat trip and nature walk as October means good weather, right? Well, as I have learned coming from northern Europe, that is not always the case.

The trip was split into two parts, the boat trip through the Piushaven Tilburg and then a nature walk through nature preserve Moerenburg.

This sunny afternoon started at the Doncurado Tilburg, which has the best coffee in all of Tilburg. At 14:00, the TIC group was picked up by our guide for the day Gert Brunink (owner of Mee Naar Buiten).

Walking from our meeting point to the boat, I would say the sky just opened up and then we discovered that there was no roof to the boat. But Gert was on hand with umbrellas! So, a little wet, we set off around the Piushaven.

The trip was great fun and we did learn a lot about the history of Tilburg and how in the past, the Piushaven was the life blood of the city. I will not go into too much detail because I feel I would not do it justice but if you are interested in knowing about the history of Tilburg I would defiantly invest a afternoon.

Then, as it always is, as soon as the boat docked, the rain stopped and Gert lead us on our nature walk through Moerenburg. This area is a natural swamp and was previously a water reservoir for Tilburg. But now, it is a quiet place to enjoy a stroll near the water and admire the many animals that are present.

We ended the tour at one of the most impressive attractions, the re-creation of the old land house. Much of the history of
this building is lost but luckily, they are finding more info every day.

Tilburg is a place with lots to offer, including plenty for the nature enthusiasts. I would definitely recommend taking this tour.

TIC Holiday Dinner

On a blustery January evening, TIC kicked off 2017 with another great holiday dinner! This year’s dinner was held at de Visserij in the Puishaven. It was a little less formal than our previous holiday dinners but that was kind of the idea. We shared appetizers and drinks in the little café as we welcomed members old and new as well as several guests.

As we all got acquainted and reacquainted, we made our way into the restaurant where shared fish, quiche and an array of vegetables. It was served “family style” and it was a bit of a different experience than most of us were accustomed to. But it was quite fun! And with well over 20 people in attendance, it was great way to keep the conversation flowing and speak to everyone.

Afterwards, dessert and drinks were again shared by all in the café, where we continued sharing stories, catching up and making plans. Although, the dinner wasn’t as fancy as dinners past, the atmosphere was fantastic and allowed us to mix, mingle and chat with everyone. The bar was cozy, played nice music and provided the perfect backdrop to enjoy a cold winter’s evening with TIC friends.
