14.05.2015 If you missed TIC’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on May 14th, you missed a great time! A great time at an AGM? Yes, you read correctly!
tíc Board of Directors hard at work!
We had a nice turnout and, after a welcome coffee with sweets, we began the evening as we do every year, with a short presentation over the club and how we are performing. All board members are still in term, so no need for a vote but our treasurer, Yiyi Bai, will be leaving us at the end of the club year and we are in search of a replacement. Next, Anne shared our membership numbers which are slightly up from last year but still considerably lower than when we had the first influx of university members. (more…)

tícMovie Night: The Secret is out!
25.09.2020. I woke up this morning with the pleasant buzz of knowing I’d enjoyed a good night out and have made new friends! It was movie night with tíc. A simple idea, we watch a movie in its original language (English) and after the movie discuss it, over a drink, in a neighbouring pub.
Fourteen of us met at the Pathé. The movie was ‘The Secret’ based on the book by the same name. Reviews of the movie were divided, some enjoying it more than others. Afterwards, sitting comfortably in the pub, the movie did not manage to hold our attention for very long as we quickly moved on to getting to know more about each other and our diverse, colourful backgrounds. Laughter, fun & friendship! As we left the pub around midnight, I knew I would be back for the next tíc event! (more…)

Tour of LocHal and WWII Expo review
by Mala Raman
07 Mar 2020. Right behind the Tilburg Central Station in the Spoorzone, is an old industrial locomotive hall that has been transformed into a cutting edge library, The LocHal. The repair center from the 1930s has been converted into a modernist design filled with glass, stunning wooden staircases and light-filled, open-plan spaces all housed within the steel beams of the original locomotive center.
Our group of tíc members met here to explore this innovative building. The World Architecture Festival named the LocHal “2019 World Building of the Year”.

ticnic-ing …. apart!
by Jessica de Swart
20 Jun 2020. 2020 has been an unusual year, and our annual picnic was a bit different this year as well- but still a very fun get-together and pleasant way to spend a beautiful weekend afternoon.
We were all thankful that conditions have improved in the Netherlands such that we could meet up again and socialize in a group. It was great to catch up with fellow tíc members and even meet a new family to tíc!
President’s Message – June 2020
Dear tic friends,
Summer is here! Of course, we are not welcoming summer in the usual way. Our holiday planning revolves around social distancing, checking regulations and, above all else, ensuring the health of our friends and loved ones. Although our lives and routines have changed, summer still brings the feeling of fun and relaxation. Even as the club season comes to a close, your board is already working on the program for the Welcome Event scheduled for 12 September 2020!
To say it has been a strange year would be an understatement. Despite having to cancel a portion of the season, tic still managed to plan and host almost 30 events! However, next year, we will be without our entire events team. Jessica and Anne-Lise will still be a part of the club but both are now taking time out to prepare for new bundles of joy! So, once again, we are asking for your help. If you would like to volunteer to assist in the planning of events, we would love you have you! It is a great way to get involved in your club, discover some fun things about the area and meet some interesting people. I started out on the board in events planning and I had so much fun organizing and learning things about my newly adopted country. If you have some time, I highly recommend it!
For now, I wish you and yours a great summer. Wherever your travels may take you – even if it is only to
your backyard – stay healthy and have fun. I look forward to welcoming you all back in September.
Wishing you healthy and sunny days,
Yolonda

tícMovie Night: The Gentlemen review
5 Jun 2020. After weeks of event cancellations, it was with great enthusiasm that I heard movie theaters could reopen on June 1st. 🙂
Pathé was careful to stick to the required 1.5 meter distance and we were assigned seats individually as we entered the theater. We sat in pairs with 3 seats and 2 rows separating guests. The Gentlemen, a combination gangster/shoot-em-up and comedy film, was a good choice and just what we needed. (more…)
