On the last Friday evening in November 4 TIC members met at Pathe to see the new and innovative movie, Here. The movie by director Robert Zemeckis, stars Tom Hanks and Robin Wright (reunited from Forrest Gump). The film’s unique aspect is that it is all about ONE PLACE (=Here) with the camera sitting in one spot, with 1 angle the entire time. While the bulk of the movie was about the lives of Richard and Margaret in the living room of a house built in the early 19th century, there were some flashbacks to previous owners of the house, as well as what was on that spot of land before the house was built, including a Native American tribe. The film used AI technology to de-age Hanks and Wright, spanning their first meeting as 17 year olds to the end of the film when they were in their 80’s. There was quite a lot of publicity about this aspect of the film – something very new! – and while a lot of the reviews were less than positive, we were pleasantly surprised by the film. We actually liked it 😊 We thought the 17 year old Hanks looked good and were unbothered by the stationary camera angle. The only time it moved was in the final scene when it rotated – we could finally see into the kitchen that had been at our back the entire time! – and zoomed out and away from the house so you got a birds eye view of where it was set. An interesting an unique movie with friendly chatting in Local 7 with a drink afterwords.
