When I was searching for the 3 book choices, I could not resist including a “horror” storybook just because it’s already October, which, for some people, means Halloween time!

We had a difficult time deciding on this book because not everyone likes “horror,” but the horror fans showed up, and this book was selected! On the Book Club discussion night, there were 7 members, and as usual, we enjoyed having some snacks and drinks while catching up on our latest activities. As part of the discussion, some of us presented theories or “facts” that others had missed, making it really interesting and causing us to rethink our own ideas.

** SPOILERS ALERT**
Fortunately, most of us finished the book, so we could reflect on some plot twists throughout the book, but also near the end. One interesting revelation was that Jolyon was Elsie’s son. She had called him “my boy” many times, and apparently, this “theory” was confirmed by the author! Another theory we discussed was whether Sarah was the one who appeared at the hospital. Some of us interpreted that Hetta had possessed Sarah through the cut she got while trying to move Hetta’s companion. Another indicator was that the wound was not healing.

We also watched a 3 minutes film by the author, Laura Purcell, describing the book and showing some scenes that gave some of us goosebumps!

In the end, we rated this book 4.3 stars out of 5.
