Our Book Club members all gathered this past Monday at Anne’s home to discuss the book, The Little Old Lady Who Broke All the Rules, by Swedish author Catharina Ingelman-Sundberg. The main characters in the book were a group of elderly residents of a senior facility named the Diamond House who were all most unhappy at cost-saving changes making their lives much less enjoyable. Martha, a 79-year-old, was the instigator of a scheme to improve their living standards by various means, such as stealing paintings from the local museum for ransom. Her cohorts were Christina, a wealthy painter; Anna-Greta, music lover who could bankroll their adventures; Rake, a charming and smart dresser; and Brains, a problem-solving inventor. They each brought their talents to the story. Nurse Barbara attempted to keep things in order at the home, all the while distracted by her lover, Director Mattson, the one responsible for trying to save money at the Diamond House. Once their first caper was enacted, the police entered in what can only be described as madcap. All-in-all, a very entertaining book, which the group rated as a 4.4.
